Knee Injection For Pain
Knee injection is a great way to treat knee pain, arthritis, osteoarthritis, swelling, and inflammation. Knee injections are very effective and have and have very few side effects when compared to surgery or pain medication. Knee injections are mainly of two types i.e. Corticosteroid Injections and Hyaluronan Injections. Hyaluronan injections are proved more effective and have fewer side effects as a comparison to Corticosteroid injections. Corticosteroid injections can interfere with other organs of the body. However, Hyaluronan injections – also known as Viscosupplementation – targets only knee pain.
Viscosupplementation Knee Injection
It is most commonly used knee injection to relieve knee pain caused by inflammation or osteoarthritis.
Uses Of Viscosupplementation Knee Injection
Viscosupplementation is used to treat knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. When the patient is not receiving relief from pain medications and other treatments, Viscosupplementation knee injection is the right option. It increases the effectiveness of synovial fluid present in the knee joint. This fluid acts as a shock absorber and lubricant in the joint. This fluid helps in the smooth movement of the knee which helps to reduce the extent of pain. Usually, Viscosupplementation knee injections are recommended to those patients who are not responding to exercise, physical therapy or other medications.
Patients with following conditions should not take viscosupplementation knee injection:
- Allergy to any Hyaluronate Sodium ingredient or similar medication
- Knee joint infection, skin disease or any infection around the site of injection.
The Effectiveness Of Viscosupplementation
The complete effect can be felt within several weeks or a few months depending on the extent of problem and pain. Viscosupplementation injection provides improved mobility, the range of motion and pain. It takes the time to provide complete relief but give benefits for six months or more.
Side Effects Of Viscosupplementation
We all know that every medication or treatment has side effects which can be mild to severe. Side effects of viscosupplementation are less severe. These are minor and rare including irritation at injection site, diarrhea, upset stomach, redness or light pain at injection site, mild bruising and temporary achy feeling. If you have severe allergic reactions, persistent headache, painful or persistent swelling in treated area, talk to your doctor.
