What Is Posture Screening?

Posture screening refers to posture analysis. In this process, the positioning of body and limbs is evaluated to determine the physical abnormalities of a person. Posture screening can disclose health information of a person to improve their health. The posture of a person plays a significant role in health and overall wellness of the body. Poor posture can cause dysfunction and discomforts. Poor posture refers to unnatural positions of the spine that make the joints, vertebrae, and muscles stressful positions. Prolonged bad postures can build pressure on tissues of these areas. Postural dysfunction can be caused due to factors like poor core stability, muscle weakness, occupational demands, sedentary lifestyle, lack of fitness or muscle tightness etc.

What Problems Can Arise From Bad Postures?

Most common problems caused by bad postures include:

  • Stress and depression
  • Poor lung function and poor breathing
  • Shoulder, back, wrist and neck pain
  • Tension headaches
  • Jaw pains
  • Gastrointestinal pain
  • Fatigue

 

Long-term effects of bad posture include changes in a spinal curve, poor digestion, and increased risk of cardiovascular problems, varicose veins and back pain. Poor posture doesn’t only affect the spine but it can have harmful effects on the overall health of the person. It causes physical and mental health complications. Continuous bad posture can initiate degradation of spinal discs which may cause inflammation and chronic pain.

What Are The Benefits Of Good Posture?

Well maintained good posture can emphasize the alignment in back, neck and keep the spine straight and healthy. Good posture helps to avoid fatigue, stress and make you feel more energized. Good posture is also essential for physical fitness. Good posture helps to maintain good health and overall wellness.

How Can We Improve The Posture?

Use of appropriate keyboard, mouse, and chair can be helpful. Stretching every hour can help to provide oxygen to your organs. Daily exercise increases the core strength. Yoga practice encourages the good posture.
